About

The Kiwanis Club of Winchester, Virginia

Founded and chartered by Kiwanis International in 1922, the Kiwanis Club of Winchester is the oldest and largest club in the northern Shenandoah Valley region. Our mission is to improve the world, one child and one community at a time.
With a membership of approximately 140 members representing all aspects of the local business, governmental, and charitable communities, the Club engages in an array of volunteer service activities and, since its founding, has delivered well more than $1 million in financial grant assistance to other service organizations that serve young people and others in Winchester, Frederick County and the surrounding area.

Kiwanis International

The Club is part of Kiwanis International, a thriving organization of community-minded individuals interested in serving young people, here and abroad. More than 600,000 Kiwanis Family members in 94 countries make their mark by responding to the needs of their communities and pooling their resources to address worldwide issues.

The Objects of Kiwanis

The six permanent Objects of Kiwanis International were approved by Kiwanis Club delegates at the 1924 Convention in Denver, Colorado. Through the succeeding decades, they have remained unchanged.

  • Object 1 – To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life.
  • Object 2 – To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.
  • Object 3 – To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.
  • Object 4 – To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.
  • Object 5 – To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.
  • Object 6 – To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.
