The Kiwanis Family
Those who join a Kiwanis Club truly become members of a family of organizations dedicated to helping others. Here in our area, for example, there are other Kiwanis Clubs including the Kiwanis Club of Blue Ridge, the Old Town Kiwanis Club, the Strasburg Kiwanis Club, and the Front Royal Kiwanis Club.
We are all part of Division 8 of the Mason-Dixon Region of the Capital District of Kiwanis International. The District oversees and assists more than 140 Kiwanis Clubs in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Most Clubs sponsor a number of school-based Service Leadership Programs (SLPs) designed to involve young people in the activities of our organization.
These include K-Kids (learn more), an SLP for elementary school, Our club sponsors a K-Kids club at John Kerr elementary School.
Middle school students can join a Kiwanis Builders Club (learn more). Our Club sponsors Builders Clubs at Daniel Morgan, Frederick County and James Wood Middle Schools.
High school students frequently join Key Clubs (learn more), an SLP designed to teach leadership through service to others. We sponsor Key Clubs at John Handley, James Wood and Millbrook High Schools.
Circle K (learn more) is the largest university service organization in the world. Our Club has sponsored a Circle K Club at Shenandoah University in the past and is currently working to form a new unit on the local campus.
Aktion Clubs (learn more) allow adults living with disabilities to participate in service projects, to gain leadership skills and become more involved in society. We sponsor an Aktion Club based at NW Works in Winchester.
Taken together, these affiliated service units indeed constitute a unique family—the Kiwanis Family.
